You know you live in Georgia when, on the first day of winter, it’s 81 degrees and on the first day of spring, it’s 57! Spring is a season of transition and it isn’t always smooth; early spring can see wide swings in temperature with periods of very cold and very warm weather. The uncertainty of early spring sometimes makes managing crops difficult. Last week it was so warm that some of the collards started bolting; this morning, we saw frost on their leaves. Thank goodness for the hoop houses; the vegetables we will count on for the first few weeks of CSA are so perky and happy right now.
We are happy to be partnering with John’s Creek Yoga again as a drop-off spot for those who live in its vicinity. John's Creek Yoga is located at the corner of Jones Bridge Road and Abbots Bridge Road. The pick-up times for CSA members who sign up to pick up at the yoga center are from 3 to 7 on Tuesdays.
On Wednesday, April 13, the Lunch N' Learn class will gather at the farm to plant a small, organic, raised vegetable bed, learn some new things, eat some good food and have fun together. Also, each student will go home with some organic transplants to put in their own garden. If you have had trouble getting a good garden going, come get some pointers from Lynn, the farmer at Cane Creek Farm.
