Welcome to Week 1's CSA Shares for Spring 2017! 🌱
Fresh Sustainable Produce - Grown Locally April 4th, 2017
It's a new year at Cane Creek Farm! Some things have changed and other remain the same. We plan to have abundant produce for the CSA and markets this year as we rotate crops, use different techniques, and offer new opportunities for our members.
The Lunch n' Learn service is back next Wednesday with a class on building raised beds for organic vegetable gardening. A farm-fresh lunch will be included as well. You can register for this class as well.
The bed in front of the parking lot is going to hold Pick-Your-Own cherry tomatoes. They will go into the ground in another month. We're also going to do Muscadine Pick-Your-Own this year.
Read below about the Farm Kids activities and food samples which we will be offering at CSA pick-up times. Thanks to all of you who signed up for a spring share and we hope you will like it so much, you will sign up for additional seasons. -Lynn
CSA Member Orientation
April 5th, 10 AM - 1 PM.
Next week on April 5th, we're going to be having a CSA Member Orientation during the regular pick-up hours between 10 AM to 1 PM. New members (and long-time Cane Creek shareholders) will find this short seminar informative, as we'll be covering info regarding handling your produce from farm to fridge to table. We'll also talk about neat tips and tricks that could make your produce waste minimal and meal plates as fresh as they can be, all the way up to the next time you come to pick up your next share!
Look Forward to CSA Samples!
At Cane Creek Farm, we try to make your CSA experience an educational and flavorful one. That's why we're fixing to try and give you even new ways to prepare the produce in your boxes! Every week on Wednesdays and Saturdays, we'll arrange recipe samples for members to try. They will incorporate various ingredients in the week's boxes. Drop-off sites will also include samples, so everybody will have yet another opportunity to explore new ways to transform their food. If you really like the sample, we'll post the recipe on the Cane Creek Farm website, so you can make them yourselves!
You might have a few questions regarding the green garlic nestled in your share this week. Here's a small read about ways you can prepare the juvenile leaves. Recipes include Kale and Green Garlic Tacos, Green Garlic Pesto, and a couple other recipes.
Check Out the New Farm Kids' Table!
Next time you pick up your share, bring your little one along! We're setting up a space right around the store for young children to explore gardening, farming, the joys of fresh food and the outdoors. They'll be crafts, sometimes music, and other activities to keep kids entertained while you ask farmers questions or mingle with other CSA members!
Lunch n' Learn - Wed. 4/12, 11 AM- 1PM
On Wednesday, April 12, the class will learn about, prepare, and plant an organic raised vegetable bed. Students will take home vegetable transplants to start their own gardens.
Cane Creek Farm's Lunch N' Learn Series is held on the second Wednesday of each month, March through October. The classes are $35 per person, limited to 10 participants, and advance registration is required. Register here.
Farm Camp 2017
Children between 8-12 who welcome bugs, dirt, and the outdoors are invited to attend Farm Camp! Participants will learn about sustainable agriculture, nature's pollinators, and clean eating during this one-week, hands-on experience! Camp will be held June 12-16 at a cost of $150. We are partnering with Cumming First United Methodist Church ( on Canton Hwy.) this year as part of their camp program. The farmers at Cane Creek will be active leaders in the camp. Drop off and pick up will be at the church with transportation to the farm.
Now's the time to sign up for your young one's next summer adventure, as there's limited space available.
For more information on registration, please visit the website here.
Grass-Fed Lamb Still Available!
We sold out of our grass-fed beef, but we still have lamb!
We are taking orders for lamb. There will be some available for Easter, and more available after. The lamb is $340 for a whole lamb, or $180 for a half.
We request a deposit of $100 for the lamb (whole) or $50 for a half lamb. This basically covers the cost of processing, which we have to pay when we go to pick up the meat.
We'll be taking the lamb to the processor on April 6th, so we should be able to deliver around the 11th.
If you have questions or would like to place an order, send us an email or call Chuck at 678-799-6600.
