Happy 4th of July weekend to the Roswell community! This market finds us welcoming jeweler Savannah Avril of The Hippie Hut, Upcountry Camp and their unique "glamping" tents. 4 Sons Seafood is bringing shrimp, and new vendor NUTS for Granola is back. We're open rain or shine, so meet us at City Hall from 8am to 12.
Weather-permitting: yoga on the grass at 10am with Roswell Yoga Life. This 45-minute class is open to all ages. BYO mat if possible.
Many apologies for neglecting to mention Diana's Specialties and Calyroad Creamery - they've been at nearly every market but slipped off the newsletter somehow! Come check out their delicious smoked fish and artisanal cheese, respectively. Their friendly reps usually have samples for your tasting delight!
Scroll below to read about Buice Farms, one of our weekly farmers. We're starting a "Know Your Farmer" feature, as well as a "Ask an Artisan" feature in the future.
Jasper, Georgia, off of Hwy 53 in a community called Hinton (Find at RFAM on the City Hall side, far from the musician)
We sell produce and plants, both flowers, vegetable starts, and perennials. We grow all our plants in a greenhouse on our farm. All our produce is grown on our 10 acres.
About Zach: I have my Horticulture degree from the University of Georgia and work full time as a horticulturalist at Reinhardt University. I was previously a gardener at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. I love selling plants but farming vegetables has become fun as well.
Sustainability at Buice: All our produce and plants are grown without synthetic herbicides, fungicides or growth regulators. We use many organic farming practices at Buice Family Farm although we are not certified. My work at Reinhardt University includes a role as the Coordinator of Sustainability. I believe it is very important to be good stewards of our land and environment. Many of our plants are "trial planted" at Reinhardt University and in my home in Jasper before I sell them at the market. I like to grow plants and flowers that I know are quality, drought-tolerant, and bring great color to your yard, like my Dragon Wing Begonias.
A short history: Buice Family Farms was started in 2014 by myself and my wife Loretta White. It is named after my Grandmother Gertrude and Grandaddy John Ray Buice of Buford, Georgia. We are a young farm but I have years of experience gardening for the 200 acres at Reinhardt University. I also manage the Waleska Farmers Market at Reinhardt University on Thursday nights in Waleska so I have learned a lot from other farmers.
Favorite vegetable: I love growing peppers, because they are easy to grow and maintain. Once they start producing, they don't stop till frost.
Final thoughts: I am so thankful to be a vendor at the Roswell Farmers and Artisans Market. This is our 3rd season at the market and the support from the Roswell community each week is amazing and grows every year. It is a honor to be a vendor at the market with such other wonderful vendors.
