Why Heritage Stands out: "We sell seasonal produce, meats (beef, chicken, pork, lamb, duck, turkey and rabbit), eggs and herbs. We enjoy a life of old-style family farming where we raise a large variety of the foods that we consume and then sell the excess in our farmers markets and online store. We really enjoy doing the small batches and wide varieties because it brings a different bounty season to season. All of our family participates in the business and we also homeschool our children.
Heritage is Certified Naturally Grown: We are also one of the few farms that uses only certified organic feeds for all of our supplemental animal feeding."
How Heritage Came to Be: "Lainya and I both came from farm families and I guess we have always farmed in some capacity. We started farming full time as a certified-natural farm in 2008. The construction industry had tanked and I ran out of work as an architectural metals subcontractor/glazier. We had visited Joel Salatin in Virginia and drew a lot of inspiration from him for our farm.
Biggest lesson learned:Don't rush good food......
Fave veggie and at RFAM: My personal favorite vegetable is the heirloom tomato....just love them!
It is also interesting to note that our oldest son (Jacob) has now taken over as the booth rep at Roswell. He started working markets with me at age 10 and has grown into his own market. Jacob will be a sophomore at UWG in the fall and is pursuing a degree in marketing. He represents the truest goal of our farm/family operation which is to raise our children in a new 'Heritage' and launch them into the world as productive, conservative and responsible citizens."
