Timeless Style: "I love selling jewelry that is affordable, looks great and that is made of great quality materials. I sell a lot of simple, minimal, unique items with a timeless vintage style."
At the Start: "It seems like it was yesterday that I got this crazy idea to start making jewelry. I love wearing and shopping for jewelry. What I dislike: a simple and chic piece of jewelry that breaks the first time I wear it. I tend to be picky about what I spend my money on.
I started to take a closer look at the costs that go into making jewelry. First I bought a few things from here and there. When it all arrived at my house, I realized, 'oh I need this or that to finish the piece'. Getting started was a bit of a sticker shock.
When I started making my own jewelry, I got the nicest compliments and people would ask if I could make them something. After making some close friends some fabulous-looking jewelry, I thought about selling as a business. First I listed a few things on Etsy and waited. Three months later, I made my first sale and jumped for joy! (One sell in three months is not a lot.) So I looked into local craft fairs and found that local people love my work!"
Outside of RFAM: "I work in the digital mapping, IT, customer support field by day and make jewelry by night and weekend."
Lessons Learned: "If you don't have confidence in yourself and your work, you can't convince your customers to have confidence in your work. Don't be afraid to put it out there and get feedback. You never know what someone else's style is and they just might love your work."
