fall-herbal-tea

Pilar's Herbal Cold Remedy

Pilar swears by this tea for curing a cold or helping with the flu! She's given it to everyone at the farm and we all love it!

Ingredients:
* 1tbs mullen flower
* 1tbs eucalyptus
* 1tbs elderberry flower
* Juice of a lime (lemons work well too)
* Raw Honey (I prefer to keep slices of ginger In my honey and keep In refrigerator since ginger Is so good for so many things)

Optional: This Is traditional for my mom's recipe but It can be optional. I use panela which Is pure sugar cane In blocks. It's Imported from Colombia and can be found In Spanish grocery stores. It Is said to contain minerals. You can also use sucanat, molasses or maple syrup to taste. It does make It more palatable and sweeter for the non-tea drinker.

Directions:
Boll the water with panela or your choice of sweetener, once the panela Is dissolved, add the herbs and steep them for a few seconds In the boiling water. Cover the pot and let it sit a few minutes while you do the following; squeeze the lime Into a cup and add a tablespoon of honey (you can chew or add a slice of ginger to give It a kick, totally optional), then fill the cup with hot tea straining out the herbs.Drink as hot as possible, and wrap yourself in blankets to sweat It off.

It's best to drink it at night, but I don't recommend taking It and going out Into the cold.
