This New Year, we're trying new things too. Follow along as some of our awesome team members try new cultures they've never made before. We'll report their progress- the ups, the downs, the easy, the difficult, to show you what culturing is really like for newbies. We hope you'll culture along with us!
If you've ordered from us before or picked up one of our cultures from a grocery store, odds are good that JR had something to do with your new culture making to your kitchen counter. JR has worked in our warehouse, packing and shipping all sorts of orders, for more than 2 years. In his free time, he's an avid home cook, vegetarian, and all-around lover of good food.
JR is going to be making water kefir with our Water Kefir Starter Kit. Before getting started, we asked him a few questions:
What do you know about water kefir? Why do you want to make it? I know it makes a probiotic drink that's good for health. Before working here I had never even heard of kefir, so this should be exciting for me! I want to learn how to make water kefir in my free time, and teach others. I want to play around with different flavors and styles of making it.
What experience do you have with culturing? I don't have much experience with culturing. Only watched a few videos on our website, but was too scared to try it out on my own.
What expectations do you have about culturing? I expect the process will go as planned as long as I follow our great directions. I think I do a pretty good job at following directions, especially if it has something to do with making food or drinks.
What do you think is going to be the hardest part? I believe the hardest part of this process will be wanting to test it out before it's done. I can see myself trying to taste the product as I go, and that may not be the best with making water kefir.
Who are you excited about sharing your water kefir with? I'm excited about sharing this with anyone that will listen. Anyone like me that doesn't know what water kefir is and wants to try it out.
Up next: JR gets started making water kefir. See you next time!
