The Time to Plan for Positive Changes

2019 already? Yes, the new year came so quickly as we ponder how another year went by again.

We see it as an opportunity to make changes in our lives --- better health, better relations, better everything...

But with a little bit more than a week past this new year, have you been successful in creating your desired changes?

Well, let's say the odds are against us because according to U.S. News & World Report, 80 percent of New Year's resolutions fail by February!

Wait! Don't let the statistics discourage you! Instead see it as a need to do things differently this year. Be the 20%!

Here are some tips on fulfilling your resolutions:

1. Write it down. With our busy lives, we need to be able to see it.
2. Limit the number of changes you want to make. Having a long list can be overwhelming. Stick to one or two things.
3. Small changes and can make big differences. Sometimes little actions can create larger effects. You want to be healthier? Start with changing one meal a day. Want to get more work done? Reduce TV time to focus on your goals. When we swear off something for good, it's difficult to stick to.
4. If you get sidetracked, don't quit. Life always gives us unexpected turns, so when things aren't going as planned, find out why. This can help also evaluate what's hindering you and redirect your goals and efforts. Remember, you haven't failed unless you quit. Dust yourself off and try again, but maybe in a different way.
5. Stay away from negativity. They say misery loves company, so what company are you keeping? Find support in like-minded people. It can be a motivation and create a form of accountability.
