May is jam-packed with amazing hands-on workshops!

It's May, which means that we'll all be sweating outside until approximately October.  This month, The Homestead is also bringing the heat! Come learn and explore with us this month - we'll be learning all about Indian spices, candle making, blacksmithing, and so much more.

Soap Making 4-Class Series | Thursdays in May
Leave this soap series with comprehensive skills and knowledge to start a soap making business, or simply master your soap making hobby. You will receive a certificate of completion for 10 hours of soap instruction with a master soap maker.
Lactofermentation 101 | Sat, May 4
Learn how to make nourishing and simple lactofermented foods at home. We'll cover the basics of lactofermentation, including best practices for safe fermentation. Plus, you'll head home with a your own ferment, recipes for everything we covered, & a list of fermentation tips.
Canning 101 | Sat, May 11
Join The Learning Kitchen founder and Certified Master Food Preserver Lyn Deardorff for a deep dive into the basics of canning. You'll learn and make a seasonal fruit jam, a zesty pickle recipe and can up some fresh tomatoes – all in the safe and convenient water-bath canning method.
Sewing 101 | Starts May 13
Sewing 101 is a 4-part series designed specifically for beginners; we help you learn to sew from step 1 — you can even bring your machine still in the box! 
CURIOSITY CLUB - Hops & Hues: Natural Dyeing | Wed May 15
Discover the amazing colors you can find inside some of your simple kitchen staples while sipping Eventide beers at our May Curiosity Club! Learn how to dye all kinds of natural fibers with things you might already have in your pantry like black beans or onion skins.
Bahlu's Bottle Opener: Intro to Blacksmithing | Fri, May 31
Spend a Friday night learning the basic processes of blacksmithing! You'll get comfortable with the shop, equipment, and materials. This super-fun project is where you'll start your education and skill training to make a fun bottle opener.
Our friends at Global Growers have hit upon some hard times. Last Friday, a severe flood devastated their 15-acre Bamboo Creek Farm when Snapfinger Creek rose more than 10 feet in just a few hours. In just a short time, five farm businesses were washed out.
